The opposition parties expressed their disappointment at the special stimulus package Covid-19 announced by the Center on Wednesday with the Congress claiming that it has nothing to do with migrant workers returning to their home.
“There is nothing that the finance minister has said about the lakhs of poor, hungry, and homeless migrant workers who have moved back to their home states — and many thousands are still walking. This is a cruel blow to those who suffer every day, “he said, addressing via video to a news conference.
Chief Minister of West Bengal and supreme TMC Mamata Banerjee said, “The special economic package the union government has announced is nothing but a major zero. The folks are fooled by eyewash. There’s nothing for the unorganized sector , public spending, and creating jobs, “she told reporters.
“First it was Rs 15 lakh’s false hope, and now it’s Rs 20 lakh crore’s claim…Now the 133 crore people will be hit by a 133-fold bigger ‘jumla’ (rhetoric)…How can anyone believe this…” he tweeted in Hindi.
Congress leader Manish Tewari also criticized the move of the government. “It’s a simple example of Government’s distorted priorities. Today , India is facing the single largest humanitarian crisis after the 1947 Partition and the displacement of East Pakistani citizens. Migrant labourers are left without jobs and shelter over their heads. But it seems they don’txist to the government,’ he said.
